Who is More Blessed?: The Laughter of a Child

Who is more blessed? Of course, there is no right or wrong answer – consider the story below and reflect on the many blessings we have in life…

The same morning I was guided to the flower with the raindrop on it, I went for a walk around a park. As I was walking and pondering “who is more blessed” in regards to the flower and the raindrop, I came to a section of the park where there is a playground.

As I drew nearer I could hear the sound of a young child laughing uncontrollably. Then I would hear the sound of a woman talking and laughing with the child. They were speaking a language only they (and their creator) could understand. A language of love. Absolute unconditional love.

The young child thrilled by the gentle push on the swing. Pure thrill of a new experience. Wind in the face, the up-and-down feeling of falling then rising. There was no fear, simply pure joy and the thrill of a new life experience.

In the child there is no time. No expectation. No judgment. And, nothing to hold back the uncontrolled laughing and squealing, no inhibition. The woman pushing the child was so thrilled to be participating in this expression of love. She was beaming, smiling, laughing, flush in the face, her heart beating with such love and life. She pushed the child so gently, she knew just how hard to push and would come in for a kiss when the child was close. They laughed, then she would push to swing out again.

As I watched I felt my heart swell and I was asked again ( from deep inside) ”who is more blessed”, the woman or the child, (or me)?
